1. Who we are
TheQuran.com (“the site”, “we”) is operated by TheQuran.com. You can reach us at contact@thequran.com or through the contact page. By using the site you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use it.
2. Purpose: study and research
The site is a scholarly resource for studying the text of the Qur'an, its transmissions, its compilation and what classical authorities wrote about it. It describes sources and documents where they differ. It does not issue religious rulings and is not legal, financial or other professional advice. Read our Sources & Methodology page to see how the material is put together.
3. Using the site
You may read, search, cite and share links to any page. You agree not to:
- interfere with the site’s operation, security, or other visitors’ use of it;
- scrape or bulk-download pages in a way that puts heavy load on the server (use the data downloads instead; they exist for this);
- misrepresent the site’s content, or present altered text as if it came from us or from our sources;
- use the site for anything unlawful.
4. Content and licences
- Research data (Differences, abrogation/naskh data, readings layers, repetitions, figures and charts) is licensed under CC BY-SA 4.0. Credit TheQuran.com with a link, and share adaptations under the same licence. Reading checks draw on Corpus Coranicum (CC BY-SA 4.0), which should also be credited where relevant. See the licence page.
- Qur'an text: the Ḥafṣ Uthmani text comes from the Tanzil Project under CC BY 3.0 and is shown unaltered. Its own terms apply.
- Design, graphics, code and written articles are © TheQuran.com, all rights reserved. Brief quotation with a link is welcome. For anything more, please ask first.
- Third-party images and fonts keep their own licences, listed on Credits & licences.
5. Provided “as is”
We check our material carefully, and each difference layer is cross-checked against at least two sources. Even so, the site and everything on it are provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including accuracy, completeness, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. The site may be changed, interrupted or withdrawn at any time. If you find an error, please report it.
6. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive loss, or for loss of data, profits or goodwill, arising from your use of the site or your reliance on anything on it. To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total liability for any claim relating to the site is limited to the greater of USD 100 or the amount you paid us to use the site (the site is free, so normally nothing). Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
7. Links to other sites
We link to sources and other sites so that you can check our work. We do not control them and are not responsible for their content or practices.
8. Privacy
How we handle usage statistics and contact messages is explained in the Privacy Policy.
9. Changes
We may update these terms. The date at the top shows the latest version. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the updated terms.
10. Governing law
These terms are governed by the federal law of the United States of America. Disputes are to be brought before the courts of competent jurisdiction in the United States, unless the law where you live gives you the right to bring them elsewhere.
