Who is responsible
The controller of personal data on this site is TheQuran.com, reachable at contact@thequran.com.
1. Usage statistics (cookieless)
We run our own small statistics tool on our own server. No third-party analytics service is involved. When a page loads, your browser sends us:
- the page address (without any query string), and the website that linked you here, reduced to its domain;
- a coarse device class (desktop, mobile or tablet) and browser family (for example “Firefox”), derived from your browser’s user-agent. The full user-agent is not stored;
- your country, where our hosting or CDN provider supplies it. It is worked out from your IP address by that provider. We store only the two-letter country code, never the IP address;
- whether this is the first page in the current browser tab. This uses a flag in your browser’s session storage, which is erased when the tab closes and is never sent as an identifier;
- a few named actions: downloading a data file, using a share button, switching a reading layer on or off, following an outbound link, and sending the contact form.
We use this to see which pages and datasets are used and how to improve the site. None of it can identify you, so no cookie banner is needed for it. If your browser sends Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control, nothing is recorded at all. Statistics records are kept for 2 years and then deleted automatically. Legal basis (where GDPR applies): our legitimate interest in running and improving the site (Art. 6(1)(f)).
2. Contact form
If you use the contact form, we store your name, email address, chosen topic, optional verse reference, your message, the page you sent it from, and the time. We use it only to reply and to fix reported errors. Each message is also delivered by email to contact@thequran.com through our email provider IONOS. To stop spam, the form uses a hidden field and limits how many messages one connection can send. For that limit, a one-way hash of your IP address is held in temporary server memory for up to one hour. It is never stored with your message. We keep messages for 2 years, after which they are deleted automatically, or sooner if you ask us to delete yours. Legal basis: your request (Art. 6(1)(b)) and our legitimate interest in answering it (Art. 6(1)(f)).
3. Cookies and local storage
We set no tracking or advertising cookies. The site uses only cookies it needs to work, plus your own preferences:
- a session cookie and a security (CSRF) token, needed for forms;
theme, which remembers light or dark mode, and the reading preferencesnaskh_srcandnaskh_hl, but only if you change them;- session storage for the first-page flag described above.
4. Server logs
Like any web server, ours, and our hosting provider OVH, may write short-lived technical logs (including IP addresses) for security and troubleshooting. We keep them for no more than 90 days and do not use them for statistics.
5. Third parties
All fonts, scripts and styles are served from our own server, so loading a page makes no requests to third-party services. The only providers that process personal data for us are our hosting provider OVH (which runs the server) and our email provider IONOS (which delivers contact-form messages to our inbox). We share no personal data with anyone else and we never sell it.
6. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you can ask to access, correct, delete or export your data, or object to its use. Write to contact@thequran.com. You may also complain to your data-protection authority. Because statistics hold no identifiers, we cannot link them to you. Contact messages can be found by email address.
7. Children
The site is not aimed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect their data.
8. Changes
We will update this page if our practices change, with a new date at the top.
