An-Naḥl 16:24

The verse

16:24
And when it is said unto them: What hath your Lord revealed? they say: (Mere) fables of the men of old, — Marmaduke Pickthall

The issue

The verse informs the reader that the Quraysh accused Muhammad of reciting Qur’ānic verses to his Companions that were not revelations from God but merely stories taken from prior books, or “‘Old folks’ tales!’” (See the critical analysis of Q 8.31-33).
