Yūnus 10:64
The verse
Theirs are good tidings in the life of the world and in the Hereafter - There is no changing the Words of Allah - that is the Supreme Triumph. — Marmaduke Pickthall
The issue
The Qur’ān declares in Q 10.64 that Allah does not change his words. Islamic commentators explain “words” as “sayings and promises". Al-Zamakhsharī explains that the phrase “‘there is no changing the words of God’” as “no changing what he said or altering his promises". Despite these statements, the Qur’ān admits to the presence of alteration to Allah’s words in the Qur’ān. Q 16.101 declares, “…whenever we change one verse for another,—God knows best what He sends down. They say, ‘Thou art but a forger!’—Nay, most of them do not know". These two verses contradict each other even though they are both Meccan verses.
